Spring Cleaning for a Purpose

March/April Newsletter (2)As the frost thaws and flowers begin to bloom, it’s not just nature that’s experiencing renewal – it’s also the perfect time for us to refresh our homes and support our community in the process. Spring cleaning isn’t just about decluttering; it’s an opportunity to make a meaningful impact on the lives of others, particularly those facing challenges in the job market.

In our community, many individuals still struggle to secure employment and provide for their families. However, the simple act of cleaning out your closets and donating to Goodwill this spring can make a world of difference. Your donations provide critical career services and programs that help unemployed individuals nationwide find meaningful work again.

As we bid farewell to winter, we often find ourselves eager to declutter our closets, attics, and other storage spaces. Yet, the benefits of spring cleaning extend far beyond tidier households. By donating gently used clothing and household goods to Goodwill, you’re not just clearing space – you’re providing opportunities for others.

The items you donate are sold in Goodwill stores, and the revenues generated fund essential job training programs and community-based services. These programs empower individuals to build the skills and confidence needed to re-enter the workforce, ultimately leading to employment and fresh starts for those without jobs.

Goodwill offers a range of career services that anyone can access to boost their chances of getting hired. From assistance with resume writing to job interview practice and access to job leads, Goodwill provides invaluable support to individuals seeking employment.

As you embark on your spring cleaning journey, consider the impact of your donations. By keeping your belongings organized and donating to Goodwill, you’re not just creating space in your home – you’re creating opportunities for others in your community. Your generosity directly supports Goodwill’s employment programs, which not only create jobs but also strengthen families and contribute to the economic health of our community.

This spring, let’s clean with purpose. Let’s turn our clutter into opportunities and make a difference in the lives of those who need it most. Together, we can create brighter futures for individuals and families in our community.

Each year, Horizon Goodwill Industries joins forces with the Education Foundation of Washington County Public Schools (EF/WCPS) and Washington County Public Schools (WCPS) to engage our community in a donation drive with a noble cause: to support education.

This year, we are thrilled to announce that Middletown Valley Bank, United Bank, and AmeriServ Bank stepped up as sponsors for the Goodwill Cup prize money, adding even more excitement to our annual event. The “Spring into Education Clothing Drive” saw an incredible turnout, with pounds of donations pouring in from all corners of Washington County.

Participation was widespread, with all 50 schools throughout the county, including the Center for Education Services (CES), enthusiastically participating in the drive. Horizon Goodwill provided donation bins to each school, setting the stage for a friendly yet competitive challenge.
